Aubry’s Story
Aubry grew up in the middle of a state forest in Wendell, Massachusetts. She attended nearby Mount Holyoke College and then went on to get her master’s at Antioch in New Hampshire. Her PhD brought her to North Carolina where she had her daughter Ada, now 9. Aubry currently practices couple and family therapy out of her business, Love Better. She loves to write, drink tea, and consign/thrift in her free time.
Josh’s Story
Josh originated in the garden state and traveled the country living in a few different states before settling in North Carolina to work as a psychiatrist. When he is not touching the hearts and minds of mentally ill North Carolinians, he is a creative force — writing, singing, and playing guitar. He also likes horror movies and anime.
Our Relationship
Aubry’s version: In 2014, Josh approached Aubry and asked for her number at CoffeeShack in Winterville, North Carolina.
They had unparalleled wordplay in their texting communication, but after a couple of dates, Aubry moved on. Six years later, Aubry decided there was more left unwritten in the Aubry-Josh story, so she asked him out on a pandemic-friendly hiking date over Facebook Messenger. Josh agreed, and they picked up where they had left off, stronger and savvier than ever. Josh and Aubry were long-distance between Raleigh and Winston-Salem for two years before Josh kindly moved to be closer to Aubry in 2022. They now reside down the road from each other where they live apart together happily ever after, amen.
Josh’s version: Josh and Aubry first met in a café near Greenville, North Carolina, while in training at East Carolina University. He asked her out, but after a couple dates, Aubry dumped him. Years later, Aubry sent a message to Josh asking for another date. We have been together ever since. We enjoy traveling and spending time with each other’s friends and families. We enjoy supporting each other's ideas and passions. We enjoy eating ice cream with Ada.
